Saint Basil is an Orthodox Church located in the southwest loop of Chicago. As a parish we strive to be what Christ has ordained His church to be – a place of worship, service, fellowship, education and witness. As an inner-city parish we believe that we have a unique opportunity to be that “salt of the earth” and “light of the world” that our Lord directs His church to be. We invite you to join us for worship this Sunday and to make St. Basil your spiritual home.
A Message From Fr. Panteleimon
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matt. 5:14-16).
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Christ is in our midst.
What better an image is there for a Christian – to be a light “set on a hill”, who people will see in action and “glorify your Father in heaven.” Our life is called to be a sign pointing to God the Father – directing those around us to His love and His life.
And that’s the purpose of the church – to help people become that light. Sometimes the saints refer to the church as a hospital where the spiritually sick enter in and are brought back to spiritual health. It is my hope and prayer that the parish of St. Basil will be such a place for all those who enter into it.
In Christ’s Service,
Fr. Panteleimon Dalianis
